Where Can I Do A Gorilla Trekking Safari In Uganda?

When planning for Gorilla Trekking Safari in Uganda, it can be done in only two national parks that including Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, both located in South Western Uganda.

Both parks boast diverse wildlife, including other primate species such as chimpanzees and colobus monkeys. Additionally, visitors can immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of the local communities surrounding the parks, adding depth to their gorilla trekking experience in Uganda.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park:

Located in southwestern Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is renowned for its dense forests and is home to approximately half of the world’s mountain gorilla population. The park offers various trekking routes, each providing a unique adventure through the rugged terrain and lush vegetation.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Situated in the Virunga Mountains, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is another prime destination for gorilla trekking in Uganda. It offers a more intimate and secluded experience, with fewer tourists compared to Bwindi. The park’s volcanic landscapes provide a stunning backdrop for gorilla encounters.

The cost of a gorilla permit in Uganda was $800 for foreign non-residents, with effect from 1st July 2024,  $600 for foreign residents, and UGX 300,000 for East African residents. Gorilla permits are essential for trekking to see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, mainly in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The permit fees contribute to conservation efforts, protection of the gorillas’ habitat, and support for local communities living near the parks. It’s important to note that gorilla permits are limited and often in high demand, so it’s recommended to book well in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons. Additionally, travelers should consider other associated costs such as transportation, accommodation, and park fees when planning a gorilla trekking experience in Uganda.

The Ishasha sector within the park is particularly famous for its tree-climbing lions. Another option is Murchison Falls National Park, where you can embark on exciting safari adventures to spot various animals like giraffes, antelopes, and Nile crocodiles. Kidepo Valley National Park in the remote northeastern region of Uganda is another gem for game drives, boasting stunning landscapes and abundant wildlife, including herds of buffaloes, zebras, and ostriches. These parks offer guided game drives with experienced rangers, ensuring a safe and memorable wildlife encounter in the heart of Africa.

Can I Combine Gorilla Trekking With Tree Climbing Lions?
